Based on what I've been able to put together, the engine block for the has been manufactured without modification from to and has been used to make, stock from the factory, hp, hp, hp, hp, hp, and other 5 to 10 hp variations of these ratings depending on the year. My goal is to run for long straight stretches in the to hp band, preferably with a turbocharger because I don't mind waiting for the power to spool up, and the fuel economy gets better with a turbo vs a supercharger.

Here's the rub; can I buy a from the early 's and with the right parts run it at these specks? Obviously older skis are cheaper, so going older looks good on paper, but am I missing something that would make this a very bad idea? Along those same lines, if I did get a or hp and turbocharged it, is the stock ECU bright enough to seamlessly adjust for the boost or would it have a fit and shut down?

If the latter, could it be reprogramed to do what I need, or would I be better off buying a hp ECU to couple to the hp engine block? In addition to the primary questions above, I'm also looking for some very basic information like power vs RPM charts for as many of these HP settings as possible.

I'd love to buy a outright, but they're four to eight thousand dollars up here in VA, hence my interest in the older unboosted models The and hp skis aren't boosted, and I suspected something about the pistons must have been changed, but I didn't know they used different connecting rods?Though Sea-Doo has perennially been a frontline combatant in the personal-watercraft horsepower war, recent years have seen the manufacturer focus on ergonomics and handling.

Though technically a new engine for Sea-Doo, the is loosely based on the previous Rotax It features the identical mm cylinder bore, but gains 9 percent in displacement due to the stroke being lengthened from the previous Cylinders feature a new plasma coating, rather than pressed-in, iron sleeves. Applied by a proprietary thermal spraying process, the coating minimizes friction, improves heat transfer, and reduces engine weight.

Pistons have been redesigned with longer, coated skirts and weigh 20 grams less. Connecting rods, shortened to accommodate the increased stroke, are also lighter.

Additional changes include the improved shape of the single overhead cam cylinder head, larger injectors, and a coil-on-plug ignition system that delivers nearly twice the discharge. For an additional cooling circuit combats power-robbing heat, and the heat sink doubles in size. Fabricated from lighter, long-life alloys and utilizing sacrificial anodes in both the body and water passages, the design also increases corrosion protection.
